The Medaf Studio Artist Residency Program offers three months residency to emerging artists who are driven to explore ways in which their work can be applied and created in a community space.

The primary goal of eligible artists must be to generate new works, as opposed to

remounting or re-interpreting existing works.

Artist Residency Guidelines & Eligibility:

• Artist must be at least 18 year of age

• May be male or female

• Must be comfortable working in an open studio setting where the public is able to interact with the artist during public hours. 

• Artists of all visual disciplines may apply

 

Privileges and opportunities provided by Medaf Studio:

• The Artist may use the studio space for three months at no cost. The studio hours are from 10am to 10pm Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays, and 2pm to 10pm on Fridays and Sundays.

• The Artist may use paint and other art supplies at Medaf Studio (must inform the staff first).

• The Artist may use the Medaf Studio storage spaces to keep his personal art supplies.

• The Artist may publicly display his artwork at Medaf Studio.

Duties and responsibilities of Artist:

• At the end of the residency period, the Artist must present a work created during his residency program through one culminating event.

• The Artist must facilitate a total of five workshops Medaf Studio within his/her residency period. Prior to the workshop, the Artist must present the idea and sample work to Medaf Studio for approval.

1.  Artist statement outlining intentions for the residency and describing their works

3. Work samples (3 to 5 works)

Artwork Guidelines

•  Works created must not contain material that demeans or disparages individuals or groups; is politically partisan; promotes use of profane language, or encourages graphic violence, illegal behavior, and respect UAE culture.

• Toxic materials, hazardous machinery, welding, use of spray paint, and the like will not be considered due to limitations within the building.

• The artist shall retain ownership, including all copyright, title, patent, and intellectual property rights of original content developed during the residency period.

• Medaf Studio reserves the right to photograph, film, videotape or otherwise depict artists of the residency and to distribute such photographs, film, video or depictions at any time during the residency or thereafter for the purposes of promotion in relation to the residency.
